Here’s a video about what makes websites succeed and fail.
The video explains that every website needs three kinds of plans to succeed:
- A strategic plan: the overall vision (inspiration) for the site, turned into measurable goals, with evidence that the goals are achievable by the site owner, and a look at strategic risk (possible challenges and obstacles to the overall strategic plan).
- A marketing plan: a concrete plan for how the site will connect with its target audience (the specific group who most clearly further its goals), with defined marketing channels (means of reaching the target audience), a clear sense of market positioning (the site’s similarities and unique points relative to sites with similar goals), and an understanding of market risk (possible challenges and obstacles to the marketing plan).
- A resource plan: a detailed understanding of the resources (time and money) the site will require during both setup and operation, a clear sense that reaching the site’s goals is both possible and worthwhile given the needed investment, and an examination of resource risk (unanticipated costs the site may face).
